The news is out. A full GT World Challenge Europe programme with Ecurie Ecosse Blackthorn AMR has been added to a return to the FIA World Endurance Championship. Representing Aston Martin for another year, with one of my busiest seasons. It will see me head back to Le Mans, and taking the Ecurie Ecosse name to the Spa 24 Hours. I am so proud, and so pleased, to be able to finally share the news.
The WEC programme is a really exciting prospect. Partnering with Dudu Barichello and supporting Gray Newall in the Vantage, and becoming part of The Heart of Racing family – a team which has shown incredible commitment and determination, bringing Aston Martin back to the top table of motorsport. It’s a fantastic opportunity, and I am so grateful to be a part of the project. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a special event by itself, but the chance to now contest the full season, and pit our Vantage GT3 against the best in the world is what I truly hoped for during the development testing. The season kicks off in Qatar in a few weeks, and it can’t come soon enough.
We ended the ALMS season in the best possible way, and had everything in a good place, so I am glad we are looking to continue the plans by heading back to Europe.
Flying the flag for Scotland has been a very proud part of the last few months, racing with Ecurie Ecosse. Now, with the announcement of our entry into the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, we will take on another five events against another world-class grid. We will be battling in the Bronze Cup, which is always hard-fought, and the line up puts us in a great place. Back alongside Giacomo, who is one of the fastest bronze drivers you could wish to be teamed up with, and a great teammate on every level. It is also great to be teamed up alongside Lorcan once again. We had some great runs in recent years in Europe and, as a three, I think we come into the championship looking strong.
So, Qatar, Imola, Spa, 24 Hours of Le Mans, Sao Paolo, Circuit of the Americas, Fuji and Bahrain, and now with the addition of Paul Ricard, Monza, Spa 24 Hours, Nurburgring and Portimao.
It’s shaping up to be a great season, so let’s get at it.
