Another solid weekend for Blackthorn AMR, with a good haul of points across the two races. It wasn’t our best weekend, and pace was a little lacking, but lots of positives to take away. Not least Giacomo’s qualifying efforts for race 1, and we are still very much in the championship with two rounds to go.
It was a hot weekend, and we were looking to keep the momentum going from our strong weekend in Spa, but we knew race 1 would be a challenge to overcome the pitstop compensation time that comes with a race win. With overtaking opportunities at a premium around Snetterton as well, a decent qualifying was going to be critical to our weekend, and that’s why Giacomo putting us on the front row was such a great result to set things up.
We were in the fight from the start of race 1, and it was damage limitation against the longer pitstop. The team did a great job to get us back out quickly with minimal time lost. From there, we kept the pressure on, but with it being a shorter race and around the tight circuit, a podium was just out of reach. Solid points to open the weekend though, giving us as strong a chance of a good result for race 2.
Starting slightly further back for the second race, but no less determined, I managed to make some progress over the opening lap. It was a bit of a messy start for the grid, which saw some penalties handed out, but we just kept ourselves out of trouble and looking to take advantage of any opportunities. We managed to gain a couple of positions over the two stints, and were unlucky to get tangled with a last lap incident which ultimately dropped us a position, but P5 at the end means nothing is decided yet.
Two races left, and we are still very much in the title fight, so all to play for. Brands Hatch up next.
