Pole position and race win at Spa. A very special weekend, and so proud of Giacomo and the whole Blackthorn AMR crew on their first wins in British GT. It has been a real journey to get here, and they have grafted at every step, so totally deserve this result.
Giacomo looked completely at home all weekend, and his pace in qualifying was a step above. His margin to the chasing pack meant that we were in an incredibly strong position for my session, and it was amazing to help score the team’s first pole. Then, in the race, everything came together without any issues. The whole team delivered a performance, and it was a special feeling to bring home the #7 Vantage for our first win. The results of a serious amount of effort and hard work by everyone.
We have been making great progress over each event, and it felt like we had a chance of scoring some decent points over the weekend. We have been looking to keep being consistent, and collecting as many points each round – just chipping away and running our own races. This weekend, with a bumper 37.5 points for the race win, we have moved back up the order, and have put ourselves firmly in the title race with four rounds to go.
The result marks a record number of wins for me, personally, and every one of them is special in a different way. 20 different results. Different circuits, teammates, conditions and situations. This one is up there with the best. After looking so strong and coming so close to a result here last year, it really feels even more deserved. A real team effort, and a goal we have been climbing towards with a clear path, and it is amazing to share the victory with the Blackthorn AMR family. Also, great to get a first British GT win for the new Vantage GT3 Evo, and continue my record of scoring a win with every GT3 model Aston Martin has ever made.
Spa always delivers.
