On the pace at Silverstone 500

That is more like it. A positive weekend back with the Blackthorn AMR crew, taking on the big one of the British GT calendar – the Silverstone 500 – and a much better result. Silverstone is one of the best circuits on the calendar; it’s the home of British motorsport, and the home of the BRDC. It is steeped in history, and the 500 is always a spectacle – 2025’s edition didn’t disappoint either.

We were looking to bounce back after the false start in Donington Park, and it was overall a positive weekend for the whole team. Giacomo really found his stride, and he was untouchable in the opening sectors of the lap, which is where you need to be extra committed to really make the time. Over the lap, we had a good balance and the car felt really great, and pace and confidence in the car put us firmly at the front over the early sessions. We ended pre-qualifying just 0.078s off the top of the timings, Giacomo ended his quali run as the fastest, and we started on the second row. A great effort against a grid of over 30 cars, and much more like where we should be.

The race was another bumper edition of the Silverstone 500, and it was as full of action as ever. The fate of several front runners was determined early with the first of multiple full course yellows, and penalties and strategies played a big part in how the order shook itself out over the three hours. We did what we do – we ran our own race and we kept ourselves out of trouble. It’s a big circuit, with lots of opportunities for overtakes, but it was a busy race with a lot of cars, and easy to get complacent or make an error as you work through traffic.

Our pace wasn’t quite there, but we chipped away, and we kept in the fight to the very end. We put together a plan to keep us in the game, and we executed our race as best we could. We stayed in touch with the top 10 throughout the whole race, even with cautions, safety cars and trying something different with the strategy, and the team had given us every chance as we got into the final hour. As others worked through their final stops and driver times, we made good time, climbing several positions as the clock ticked down.

The podium was just out of reach, such was the pace of those ahead, but P4 overall is a huge result for us as a team. With the winning car not eligible for championship points, we take a strong points haul from the weekend, and it is a real kickstart to our championship challenge.

There’s always work to do, even when you win, but a huge step forward for us all. Oulton Park will bring a new challenge, but we will be ready, and looking forward to seeing what we can bring to the party.
