We had a tough end to our last run in British GT, but Snetterton presented new opportunities – and twice the chance to score a decent result, as one of the two double headers this year. We have been getting stronger with each round, and it definitely feels like it is only a matter of time before we are on the podium, so we were feeling confident.
A strong qualifying by Giacomo put us in that battle near the front of the field, and things were looking great, but motorsport can be won or lost on the narrowest of margins, and 0.07s was all it took for our pitstop to be under the regulations to mean a penalty took us out of contention from the podium positions in race 1. Another brutal blow.
My qualifying session was tough, as I struggled to get the best grip from the tyre during the short shootout. Not an excuse, but just a frustration, as it meant we started out of position for race 2. However, we keep the fight going, and make some gains in the first half of the race. The second stint, with Giacomo back in the car, is anpther busy 30 minutes, and it was great to make some steady progress up the order. Firmly inside the top-10, a last ditch move on the final lap gained us another important position, finishing P7 at the flag. Further positions were then gained post-race, after penalties from an action packed event, meaning we walked away with a top-4 result, despite the less than perfect qualifying.
We seem to get hit with some bad luck, but we roll with it, and we are ready to keep pushing, to fight our way back. Soon that luck will change, as it always does, and we will be ready for it when it does.
