OMAN RACING WITH TF SPORT APPOINT CHAMPION-FILLED LINE-UP FOR 2021 ASIAN LE MANS SERIES

TF Sport will make their Asian Le Mans Series return in January 2021 with GT3 champions, Ahmad Al Harthy and Jonny Adam. The line up will be completed by 2019 British GT GT4 champion, Tom Canning, in their Aston Martin AMR Vantage V8 GT3.

COVID-19 related travel restrictions and a change in calendar led to the withdrawal of TF Sport’s British GT Championship GT3 entries. However, Ahmad and Jonny’s plans of competing together again were never abolished, only postponed, until various championships had confirmed their amended race dates. Determined to ensure Canning’s step-up to the GT3 field still takes place, TF Sport have placed the youngster alongside regular team mates Al Harthy and Adam, with confidence that he will bolster the Asian Le Mans entry.

The revised Asian Le Mans Series calendar sees the four by four-hour races take place within the month of January, split equally between Buriram Chang International Circuit in Thailand and Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia. Consistency will be key over the four races, as the ultimate goal for Oman Racing with TF Sport is to win the championship and gain a Le Mans entry for the future.

Race 1: 4H of Buriram – Buriram Chang International Circuit, Thailand – 9 January 2021 (Children’s Day)

Race 2: 4H of Buriram – Buriram Chang International Circuit, Thailand – 11 January 2021

Race 3: 4H of Sepang – Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia – 23 January 2021

Race 4: 4H of Sepang – Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia – 26 January 2021

Ahmad Al Harthy, Bronze Driver, TF Sport – “I’m delighted to be teaming with Tom [Canning] and, of course, Jonny. Jonny and I have won so much together, I really think all three of us make a very strong line-up for the Asian Le Mans Series. If things work out well in Europe with less restrictions on travel in the weeks and months to come, we’ll probably do some one-off races as well.”

Tom Canning, Silver Driver, TF Sport – “It’s really exciting to be racing with Jonny and Ahmad, they are both proven GT3 champions and I think we’ve got a great shot at the championship title. I’ve got a lot of confidence coming off the back of my championship win in British GT GT4, but I think this is a pretty big step up. Although I already feel comfortable in the GT3, the circuits are unknown to me and racing with LMP cars will be a new experience, but it’s all steps towards my ultimate ambition of racing in the World Endurance Championship.”

Jonny Adam, Platinum Driver, TF Sport – “I’m looking forward to racing in Asian Le Mans and it’s nice to be back racing with Ahmad. Okay, it’s a different championship to what we had planned, but Ahmad is a well-prepared Bronze driver and now to be joined with a strong Silver in Tom is great. It’s two circuits I have never been to, but the three of us will do as much prep work on the simulator as we can before we go. The car should be really good out there and the team have obviously raced in the championship before and we’ll be on the Michelin tyre, which TF Sport has experience with already in 2020.”

Tom Ferrier, Team Owner, TF Sport – “It’s great to be racing again in the Asian Le Mans Series. Despite the condensed season, the organisers have done a fantastic job in planning four races at two superb venues and it’ll be a good challenge for the crew to have the quick turnaround time in-between the events. We have an exciting line-up and I am confident that we will achieve some strong results. We have the capacity to run two cars in the Asian Le Mans Series, which would be great for challenging for both the drivers’ and the teams’ championship!”

Cyrille Taesch Wahlen, Managing Director, Asian Le Mans Series – “We are very pleased to welcome Oman Racing to the Asian Le Mans Series and to welcome back TF Sport to the Series with their Aston Martin Vantage GT3. The team will be the first Omani team to race with the Series, further diversifying the paddock. We look forward to seeing them in January!”
